1986 – First Official Logo

The Tribal Communities Association of the Philippines (TRICAP), Inc. was formally launched in 1986 by its founder, the late Congressman “DATU OTEP” JOSEPH GUABONG SIBUG, the first sectoral representative for indigenous peoples in the Philippine House of Representatives during the 9th Congress, under the administration of late President FIDEL V. RAMOS.

Joseph “Datu Otep” Guabong Sibug played a significant role as an advocate and sectoral representative. He was the first IP sectoral representative in Congress, which gave him a platform to push for recognition of Indigenous Peoples.

DATU OTEP, together with Mrs. Cecil Alvarez of the Earthsavers UNESCO, began rallying members of the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) across the country, swiftly organizing Tribal Communities to ensure they would be recognized and respected by every Filipino. Guided by his vision, he dedicated himself to the upliftment and empowerment of all Indigenous Peoples Communities.

Records show that during that time, there were approximately 12 million cultural minorities in the Philippines, representing 110 distinct tribes.
